Joe Swanson, 34, almost one year of sobriety.

Only months into his recovery, Swanson lost his mother. Less than two months later, he lost his niece to a herion overdose.

Swanson has been in and out of recovery, but after receiving a felony conviction, the state government gave him the option of jail time or going through Drug Court. Drug Diversion Court, or Drug Court, is a rehabilitation program tied with the state that will decrease criminal charges if the participant seeks rehabilitation and sobriety.
